Feedback Messages

Feedback Messages (aka Notifications) are medium priority messages that don't interrupt the user's flow, but provide valuable information.

Message Types

  • Information: An information message that isn't usually a response to an user action, but is incidental information that helps the user understand minor contextual or state changes.
  • Confirmation: Communicates that an action was processed successfully.
  • Warning: Used when something needs to be corrected. They talk about ways to avoid error situations and help the user take a next step in the right direction.
  • Error: They indicate that an action or process failed completely or talk about irreversible situations. Use sparingly, to maintain the emergency connotation they mean to convey. Favor the “Warning” message type whenever possible.

Message Display Options

There are two ways the app can display the previous message types:

  • As A Flash Message: They are used to give immediate feedback after a flow is completed. They overlay on top of the UI, but do not obstruct the user’s flow and last for ~2 seconds before fading away.

  • As An Inline Message: When placed inline, Feedback Messages tell users of a particular screen area that needs user action, or inform about context or the screen's status.
